Orbit SIGet Orbit SI safety alerts for someone you care about

Would you like a text from Orbit SI if a friend or family member's phone detects a crash and they don't answer? These are informational safety alert texts (crash alerts) only, never marketing.

Tap the link in your invitation, or text JOIN to (888) 403-7517

By texting JOIN, you agree to receive safety alert text messages (crash alerts) from Orbit SI, a service of Fort Detroit Logistics LLC, at the number you text from. Consent is not a condition of any purchase or service. Msg frequency varies, usually none. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Terms · Privacy Policy

Orbit SI only texts people who asked. These are informational safety alert texts (crash alerts). Someone you know can invite you to be their emergency contact in the Orbit SI app. You agree by texting JOIN to (888) 403-7517 from the number they invited (or JOIN and the code from their invitation; the link in the invitation fills it in for you). Until you do, Orbit SI never texts you. Text STOP anytime to stop all texts from Orbit SI, or HELP for help.

What these texts are

Orbit SI is a navigation app. Its crash alert uses the phone's motion sensor to notice a hard crash while someone is driving or riding a motorcycle. Orbit asks them "Are you OK?" on the phone. If they don't answer within a minute, Orbit tells the people they chose: their Orbit Family in the app, and their emergency contacts by text.

The message type is informational safety alerts (crash alerts). Orbit never sends marketing, promotions or advertising by text.

How someone agrees to get them

  1. An Orbit SI user signed in to their Orbit account opens Settings › Alerts › Crash alert › Emergency contacts and adds a person's name and mobile number (up to 5). Orbit gives that person a 8-character code. Orbit does not text them.
  2. The Orbit user sends the invitation themselves, from their own phone, as an ordinary text message: a short note saying what the texts are and a link to orbitsi.app/alerts. That page shows the full terms right next to the Text JOIN button: what the texts are, who sends them, that texting JOIN means agreeing to them, frequency, rates, HELP and STOP, Terms and Privacy Policy.
  3. The person agrees only if they choose to, by texting JOIN from their own phone to Orbit SI's number, (888) 403-7517. The invitation's link (orbitsi.app/alerts/…) opens their Messages app with "JOIN" and their code filled in, so they only tap Send; texting just JOIN from the invited number works too, and JOIN with the code (for example, JOIN 4F7KQ2XP) if more than one person invited them. Agreeing is never required to use anything; it is only for getting crash alerts about the person who invited them.
  4. Orbit SI answers with what the texts are, how often, message and data rates, the terms and privacy policy, and asks them to reply Y to confirm.
  5. After they reply Y, Orbit SI confirms they're all set. Only then will Orbit SI text them about a crash. If they never text JOIN, or never reply Y, Orbit SI never texts them again.

The texts Orbit sends

How often

Message frequency varies and is rare: the request to confirm and the confirmation once each, then texts only if a crash is detected, at most one crash alert every 10 minutes. Most people never get one.
